Age Concern Cambridgeshire – Voluntary Visiting Scheme

The Visiting Scheme is a free service for older people living alone in their own homes.  The aim of the Scheme is to provide friendship and support to older people who have become isolated and lonely, without prejudice and judgement. The scheme offers a commitment from volunteers to visit regularly (normally once a week for an hour), with the intention of a friendship developing.

Healthy Homes Partnership

The Health Homes Partnership is funded by Fenland District Council, Social Services and the Primary Care Trust and is run by Age Concern Cambridgeshire.  It covers all of the surgeries within the Fenland Primary Care Trust area and can provide assistance to people who are: aged 60 or over, at risk of, or had a fall and a patient at one of the surgeries.  There is an open referral system, so any who meets the criteria can contact them.  They will carry out a home assessment and where necessary, make referrals to other professionals.

Fenland Council for Voluntary Service

Fenland CVS is a membership organisation which aims to represent and support voluntary organisations and community groups in Fenland.  A range of services are available including a programme of training events, fundraising advice, lending library, access to office services,  and equipment for loan such as display boards, overhead projector and screen, portable hearing loop and digital camera.

Volunteer Centre Fenland

The Centre recruits and places volunteers in the Fenland area and provides a wide variety of voluntary opportunities.  Activities are aimed to attract all members of society to benefit those most in need.  They also run a social car scheme across Fenland which operates throughout the week.

Rural Stress Information Network (RSIN)

RSIN is a national charity and its activities include:

·   Raising awareness of the cause and effects of rural distress and seeking to influence decision makers to consider the human dimensions at local, regional and national levels through representation, responding to consultations and involvement in a wide variety of partnerships and fora

·   Providing infrastructure support for rural stress initiatives

·   Maintaining a library of information and research re issues relating to rural distress

·   Operating a national helpline to those in distress, providing a listening ear and signposting on to suitable sources of practical and financial help – 02476 412 916

The Town Hall is hosting an exciting arts programme and with summer 2005 being the kick-off season March is in for a fantastic treat! Joseph, artistic director, hopes that the Town Hall arts programme will provide a diverse range of experiences to inspire people of all abilities and backgrounds to take part. It will be an opportunity for the community to share and experience a diverse range of art and performance.

 

The Town Hall provides the opportunity to display and engage in all forms of art from the visual aspects on the walls of the new Café to possibilities of 3D art exhibitions, drama, workshops, music, spoken word, dance and film screenings in the auditorium.

March & Chatteris Talking Newspaper Association

 

The organisation aims to relieve the blind, the partially sighted, or those labouring under some temporary or permanent incapacity or disability which makes reading a strain by the provision of recorded tapes or tactile reading matter.  They produce 3 tapes per month, a fortnightly newsletter and ‘Fenscene’ a monthly magazine.  The tapes are produced by volunteers, with a circulation of 55 to 60.

Fenland Rural Training & Support Services Ltd

 

Fenland Rural Training & Support Services Ltd is a not for profit organisation which has provided training for rural businesses in Fenland for the last thirty years.  The training covers all areas applicable to the rural economy and extends its’ services to facilitate all rural business sectors.

 

Training is provided all year, based around groups with similar needs. It ranges from workshops, to seminars and conferences, utilising the experience gained over many years to analyse business training needs and provide suitable venues and qualified instructors.
